VanDeWalle Fruit Farms Expansion Nearing Completion in Town of Alton

Taylor Helps Deliver 24,000 SF Addition to Leading Apple Producer

Alton, N.Y. – TAYLOR, a leading regional commercial General Contractor out of East Rochester, New York, is nearing completion on the expansion project for VanDeWalle Fruit Farms in the Town of Alton, New York. TAYLOR teamed with Rochester-based design firm, Meehan Architecture, for construction of the approximately 24,000-square-foot warehouse, and breakroom addition located at 5930 Shaker Road.

“We were proud to establish a new relationship VanDeWalle Fruit Farms while helping to expand and continue the growth of this multi-generation apple farm in Wayne County,” said TAYLOR President, Karl Schuler. “With over 23,685 acres of apple farms in Wayne County, the third-highest apple producer in the country, we are happy to be a small part of expanding this valuable region and agricultural resource in our state.”

The VanDeWalle Fruit Farms addition connects two separate spaces into one functional building. The addition features an approximately 21,600 square-foot packaging area and a 2,400 square-foot break room with six (6) bathrooms, situated within the 24,000 square-foot pre-engineered building. The new space allows the addition of time-saving machinery and production lines to improve their ability to pack their own apples more efficiently and effectively for the always growing farm.

About VanDeWalle Fruit Farms

VanDeWalle Fruit Farm was established in 1983 upon the purchase of a fruit farm in Alton, N.Y., consisting of 155 acres. A partnership was formed between manager Scott VanDeWalle, Marshall VanDeWalle and their parents, Kenneth and Donna VanDeWalle.

The farm has grown over the years with the purchase of additional land to its current 600 acres, approximately 470 of which are dedicated to apple trees. The main varieties grown are Gala, Honeycrisp, Macs, Cameo, Fuji, Red Delicious and SweeTango. An apple-packing house, Wayne County Fruit Sales, was added in 1991 allowing them to pack their own apples, plus those of neighboring growers.

The Wayne County Fruit Sales facility, under the management of Marshall, has also grown over the years. All in all, the apple industry has proven to be a gratifying occupation for VanDeWalle’s.
